About the author

With his Master’s Degree in Film, Andrew Zielinski has always pursued a career
in film culture. He taught aspects of film in schools and for 10 years lectured on Australian Cinema at Flinders University.

He was Director of the South Australian Film and Video Centre, where he provided contexts for the Centre’s 22,000 films and 8,000 videos, including screenings for the Art Gallery, the State Library, the Media Resource Centre, Tandanya Cultural Centre and National Film and Sound Archive screenings.

As well as providing film festivals for schools at
the Festival Centre, he organised two national touring festivals, one in Shanghai Animation and
the other for Swedish Children’s films. He also directed two international children’s film festivals in Adelaide.

For 10 years Andrew was the film critic for Adelaide’s ABC radio and he has
been a member of many boards, committees and consultancies, including the South Australian Film Corporation and the National Film and Sound Archive, and been a film consultant for the Australian Film Institute, Film Queensland and the Victorian Arts Centre. He was Chair of the Australian Council of Government Film Libraries and of the SA Young Film Makers and was on the first and second inaugural committees which established the Australian Documentary Film Conferences.
